If you’d like to create your own beautiful crochet flower hair vine, this free crochet pattern is quick and beginner-friendly. Below is a step-by-step tutorial, and you can easily customise it by making the chain longer, adding more flowers or flowers in different colours, adding more glitter – or, you know, no glitter at all, if that’s your preference.
When I had some yarn left over from my crochet dress, I thought it would be cute to make a little crochet hair accessory to go with it – and as it turns out, the pink and green yarn work great with a lot of my clothes. To ensure peak fairy-vibes, I, of course, added some glitter. I have been wearing it at least once a week since I made it and I hope you’ll love yours just as much!
Why You Should Make This Crochet Flower Hair Vine Pattern
- Quick and beginner-friendly
- Perfect for ren faire or as a gift
- Customisable length and colours
- Uses scrap yarn
Essential Materials

For the vine, I used a thread of Søstrene Grene’s green 8/4 cotton yarn combined with Hobbii’s Glitter Deluxe. For the flowers, I used a thread of Hobbii’s soft bamboo fine yarn, again combined with Hobbii’s Glitter Deluxe. Both the bamboo and cotton yarn are soft, though the cotton keeps its shape better.
Although you can use a larger hook, I used hook size 2.5mm, as I wanted the petals to be delicate.
I used scrap yarn for both vine and flowers, as you only really need a few meters in total.
The glitter thread does make it slightly more difficult to work with, but can easily be omitted.
Crochet Fairycore Flower Hair Vine – Step-by-Step Tutorial
How to make the vine and leaves:

For the crochet flower hair vine, start by chaining 10.

Then, holding on to the 10th chain, chain another 3 for the leaf and stem.

In the 2nd/middle chain, do a double crochet, a triple (also known as treble) crochet, two double crochet and a half double crochet. (If you are unfamiliar with these stitches, here’s a tutorial showing each one).

Chain 2.

Slip-stitch into the 3 exposed chains from the half double crochet.

It should now look as above.

Then, in the same chain as before (2nd/middle chain of the 3 chains), do a half double crochet, two double crochet, a triple crochet, a double crochet and slip-stitch.

Slip-stitch into the chain right under the leaf.

Chain 10 and repeat the steps above.

Continue till your crochet flower hair vine reaches the desired length (depends on how long your hair is). I made 13 leaves.
If you would like the a leaf at each end of the yarn, go back into the first hook, chain 3 and make a leaf by following the steps above.
How to make the flowers:

For the flowers, start with a magic ring. Here’s a video tutorial showing how to a magic ring (it gets a lot easier with practice, I promise!).

In the magic ring, make three triple crochet.

Chain 2.

Slip-stitch into the magic ring.

Repeat 5 times for 5 petals. Tighten to close the gap. Do not cut the yarn.

Once you’ve finished either one or all of your petals, you can insert your hook in the 5th chain from any given petal as pictured above. Pull the flower yarn ends through the chain and make two loops around the chains.

Weave in your ends and you’re done!
